Folding your Saddle Blanket
The saddle blanket should be folded to a size which, when fitted, will project about two inches in front and behind the saddle.
The double fold The blanket is folded lengthwise then doubled crosswise. It should be placed on the horse's back lengthwise with the selvedge edge on the near side and facing the rear. The folded size should be 2' 81/2" x 2' 4". The envelope fold In situations where an extra thickness under the front arch is needed the blanket is folded in three equal folds the length of the blanket (A + B). A fold of 2' is then made at one end (C). The other end is turned over which forms a pocket into which the other end is tucked (D + E). It is then put on the horse's back with the thick end near the withers. Another blanket is generally used to avoid rubbing by the 'V' attachments. The channel fold For some shapes of back the channel fold is useful. The blanket is folded lengthwise in three equal parts. Each end is then turned over and folded toward the centre, leaving a channel down the middle. Two or three folds may be used depending on the shape of the horse's back. |
